Introduction to Ultrasound

This introductory course explores the fundamentals of veterinary point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), including how ultrasound images are produced, common FAST protocols, probe selection, tissue appearance and frequently encountered artefacts.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain the purpose, benefits and limitations of veterinary POCUS.
  • Differentiate between A-FAST, T-FAST and VetBLUE examinations.
  • Describe how sound waves create ultrasound images and how different tissues appear.
  • Identify appropriate ultrasound probes and recognise common imaging artefacts.
